Established in 1981, Saraighat College is the only institution of higher education in the greater Changsari area. During the course of about twenty years of journey the college has been striving untiringly to spread the ray of education among the rural populace, overcoming various hazards and challenges.
 

        From its inception, the college has been working with a missionary zeal to promote higher education among the womenfolk and socially backwards.
 

       The college was inaugurated on 21st July, 1981. The classes started with 116 students and a staff of 8 teachers and 2 officials. Initially, only the intermediate (Arts) classes were held but with the passage of time the college develop into a full-fledged Degree (Arts) college. The college was brought under deficit grant-in-aid system and Govt. provincialization system w.e.f. 25th March,1998 and 1st Jan,2005 respectively.

      The chairs of the principal was adorned by the following persons since 1981.

   2. Mrs. Ambalika Devi (i/c) ( 2001 Nov. – 2003 April)
   3. Mr. Dwijen Kumar Saikia (from 28 th April,2003 onwards)
